Dear Game Changers,
As we continue conversations across the industry and monitor the evolving global operating environment, we wanted to provide a formal update regarding The Aviation Challenge 2026 timeline and program structure.
After thoughtful discussion and feedback from many of you across the community, we have decided to stay the course with the original Challenge timeline and overall program structure. At this time, no major schedule adjustments or postponements will be made.
That said, we also recognize the realities many teams are navigating day to day. In response to feedback surrounding internal coordination and operational lift, we are making one important adjustment to help reduce pressure on participating teams:
Showcase Flights will now be optional rather than required.
We know that organizing and executing a showcase flight can sometimes feel like one of the largest operational lifts within the Challenge, particularly when balancing ongoing priorities across departments and regions. Our hope is that this adjustment allows teams to remain focused on the incredible work already happening internally, while removing some of the organizational weight associated with planning a dedicated flight activation.
At the same time, we want to reiterate that showcase flights remain an incredibly valuable part of the Aviation Challenge ecosystem. They provide a visible and tangible opportunity to:
- Bring cross-functional teams together around implementation
- Demonstrate progress in a real operational environment
- Generate internal engagement and momentum
- Highlight practical, scalable solutions across the industry
Importantly, a showcase flight does not need to be large or complex to qualify. Even a single solution or focused operational test conducted during a flight may qualify as a showcase flight within the program.
Please also note that the Awards structure and evaluation process will remain unchanged.
Below, you will find the updated Aviation Challenge Handbook reflecting these changes and clarifications.
